Alumni speak

I would like to extend my heart felt gratitude to IIPH-Gandhinagar and their dedicated staff for conducting a wonderful course on Research Methodology. The course being a long distance course, with regular online contact programs and discussions made us learn research methods precisely from our workplaces. Being public health professionals, we have been attending different trainings and workshops on Research Methods but CRM has helped us to refresh our knowledge and learn the subject in depth in a compete and organized way, making us feel more confident and efficient. The weekly online discussions were excellent; materials sent to us were rich source of knowledge. Hope to see more such courses in the future.

I am having a great learning experience in the PGDMRCH DL course. The course is designed to accommodate busy professionals who would like to study while working. I was regular in appearing in the weekly assessments since January but due to job shift I could not be regular since last couple of months. I was very happy when I was given a chance to reappear in my weekly assessments and interim assessment. The faculty's video recorded lectures along with the power point presentations are very helpful. It seems like a real class. The monthly discussion forum is also quite helpful, where doubts are cleared. I think it’s a great course and I am happy to be a part of it.

My knowledge for RCH program is updated and my way of thinking and applying it in the field has improved. Presently I am looking after RCH program implementation in the Urban area of Anand district covering 30% population of the district. So modules of Management, IEC, Maternal Health and Child health have not only given me knowledge but changed my attitude in the field. I can get data and important schemes and its implementation of different states from our modules. I learned skills of management from this course. And it is very useful in my current job. I go through maternal health registers of some PHCs and I found 10 % to 22% deliveries are wasted (MTP/abortion). My medical officers are always asking me about family planning operation work-load which is higher than other district. I gave them example by showing technique of calculating unmet need. So these are the two examples but this course improved my way of working. This is my first course in distance learning. I got knowledge by attending lectures, weekly tests and interim and final assessments helped me for conceptual clearance and clarifying subjects.

Course is helpful in improving my performance in implementing the programs in health centre. I worked in Primary Health Centres in Andhra Pradesh while doing the course. Whatever I am doing in the course exercises and the virtual classes matched to my work practically. I got confidence to do my work in the best way possible and everyone who needs to work with NRHM as program director should do this course so that he can deliver his/her services up to the mark. Thanks a lot for providing such a got opportunity to know the facts regarding the services as a doctor at PHC level.

I am already involved in teaching, training and evaluation of RCH program and others. I am definitely empowered by reading the modules, they are enriching in all the domains of learning and will be useful. Right now, it has given me insight for guiding post-graduates in community medicine and encourage them to take up thesis in RCH.

In my current job, I find the course is very useful in developing strategies; designing tools for effective program implementation, understanding maternal and child health programs better. This course has helped me in estimating number of pregnant women, live births etc. in a specific geographical area by calculating CBR. Also I understand the interventions/strategies for reduction in NMR/IMR considering all the situational contexts; effective implementation of maternal health programs by optimum utilization of health services provided by Govt. functionaries like ANMs, Health Supervisor etc. Also I have now better understanding of different national schemes/programs based on reproductive, maternal and neo-natal health.

I have not yet completed this program as only five modules are completed. However, because of this course I am now more familiar with community health issues. I did not have much clarity of research techniques and methodology but now I am acquainted with research methods. I gained good knowledge regarding health programs through this course. This course has given me confidence and I feel it when I attend any workshops, seminars on health issues. I felt that my opinion is being given much importance by district health authorities. I hope this course will help me in getting good job soon. I raised the issue of stay of delivering women at health facility in front of district magistrate and chief medical officers and put some facts and figures in front of them. DM was convinced and he has instructed CMO to ensure stay of delivering women in health facility.

The diploma program has added to my public health knowledge set. The skills learnt are an add-on to my knowledge base of public health management which came across as an edge in my resume. My current job deals with issues against sex selection and the target community is female. The thorough management principles of the maternal health have helped me to understand the arena from all perspectives possible and apply them practically when necessary. The course had refined my research skills. The course is very structured and well designed to make it an easy learning experience for the students with esteemed faculty.
