Alumni speak

Online way of teaching, presentations, reference materials and assignments has given me good exposure about modern technique of studying and learning. I shared my views, ideas and knowledge and what I have learnt from the course with my colleagues, staff and implemented this knowledge through discussions, made presentations (from data I have collected for assignments and reference materials) also implemented this knowledge and information/updates in my counselling for patients. It’s really a good course for a person like me who wanted to make career in field of public nutrition. I want to go for research and PhD and thus this course will give me good insight and knowledge; infact it encouraged me to think seriously about my goals and motivated me to achieve it.

Joining PHFI-PHN was a good decision. It provides right platform to get an in depth understanding of public health sector. After acquiring 9 years of professional experience in health care industry, now I am looking forward to move in to public health sector. Through this program I have received proper guidance on the same. Though imparting knowledge through e-learning is not a new concept, but getting a first-hand experience is a different story altogether. Internet and connectivity problem were there sometimes but as recorded lectures were also available, I didn’t miss out anything. For some students course content was bit technical but in my opinion it was comprehensive. It would be helpful if more realistic data and documents will be shared on this platform. Networking activities are also expected. Overall, I would like thank PHFI for all the support and benefits.

The PHN course helped me in enhancing my knowledge and analytical skills on public health and nutrition issues. The course helped me to broaden my mental arena on the public health nutrition. I learnt how to conduct critical analysis of the multidimensional and interlinked development programs related to health and nutrition aiming at enhancing quality of life of people. The project I am working with is on women empowerment. I used my analytical skills, learnt during the PHN course in analyzing the development programs of Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh, which are related to social, economic and political empowerment of women in rural areas and initiating designing of social mobilization and inclusion strategy for the benefit of the project.

I applied for the Public Health Nutrition course as I wanted to gain more knowledge about good health through nutrition and primary prevention of nutrition related illness in the population. This course covered a lot than I expected and also involved me having the insights on nutritional epidemiological research, the role of nutrition in public health, and the identification of practical solutions to public health problems. I am thankful to the Public Health Nutrition faculty who were helpful every time I needed a mentor to guide me on content. I look forward to more associations with Public Health Foundation of India.

In an effort to address nutrition education, researchers and educators have developed this nutrition education program quite well for professionals. In formulating a framework to drive all focus group discussion and web classes, the first semester was to rely on established theoretical principles used in health promotion and nutrition education that was a great information for me. As I expected benefits and costs of the specific study, attitude towards these important information about the subject will help me in future. This program gave me a chance to develop self-efficacy expectations related to my profession. I am so much thank full for all PHN Team for providing me great support to complete this course successfully.

Since I am a medical doctor and working in public nutrition programs, enrolment and participation in this course enable me to perform the activities like planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition program under the Public Nutrition Department of Minister of Public Health, Afghanistan in a good and professional manner. The program structure and management were very nice and helpful for me. If the live classes increased in terms of numbers and hours per week that will be more helpful and give more opportunities to the students be more in contact with facilitator and course moderators.

During the 2013 academic session of the PHN program, I learned that the field of public health and nutrition is not simply the study of different diseases and causes. It is more concerned with health and nutrition determinants, associations between behavior and disease, trends within populations, methods to control disease, malnutrition etc. However, in this course, I have found that public health covers a wider range of ideas, actions, and techniques than I had originally thought. I learned how public health is the place where all of our preventative measures for diseases, illnesses, and environmental factors come from. I have been passionate about nutrition for many years though I think taking any public health and nutrition course and pursuing the many different careers involved is very advantageous because the measures, statistics, and ideas one learns from the courses provides a different outlook on the average actions we take for granted every day. I really liked the presentation of the material. It reads clearly & logically, pieces of information are built in beautifully. Faculties and management of the program were so accessible and always ready to help out with any queries or concerns. I get the impression from your prospectus, that you have put thought into making the subject learnable, and that comes across in the home study and the ‘test your knowledge questions’. The questions really open up the subject and make you curious about the reasons for things -makes you engage. I highly recommend the Public Health Nutrition program to anyone interested in a career in public health.
